Description:   Go over different parts of house pets with students to learn about animals physical characterists and why they have them.
Time Alotted:  2 hours (1 hour for 2 days)
Materials, Tools and Resources:  Paper, computers, animal websites, computer projector
Web Sites Needed:   
Teacher preparation: 1.)  Do power point presentation with words, "Tail," "Ears," "Fur," and "Fin" and make sure students understand what each of these are. Add the animal graphics to match with picture of a dog, cat, goldfish, bird etc..

2.) Ask how the animals use each part. Get students involvoed with the answers, "My goldfish needs the fin to swim" or "My dog needs fur to keep warm." etc.  Go over different housepets students have and match their "parts" with the animals. Have all students research on the computer an interesting aspect about the animal they have picked.

3.) Have children pick an animal from the computer and print it or draw or color one and then share each picture and their interesting finding with the class. This gives them something to take home or can be put up in the schoolroom.
Prerequisite technology skills:   Knowing how to use mouse, keyboard and type in website
Class layout and grouping of students:   Desks in U-shape with teacher in middle or in front (computers on laptops)
Procedures:  Gain attention-Start lesson with power point presentation and computer images (or books, pictures) of dogs, cats, goldfish etc.

Present objectives-Today we will learn about housepets and what special characteristics they each have

 Relate to present knowledge- Go over in a question and answer format what students know about different housepets.

 Engage students in learning-
Ask students how many have a certain pet or have seen one they liked and what they liked about it's tail, coloring, fur, fin etc.

Provide for practice & Provide Feedback- Hand out paper to students to draw or color the pet of their choice or give access to computers they can choose an image and print it.

Closure- Sum up with students the different animals they have picked and the interesting characteristics about each one.
Student Products:  a Paper drawing or coloring or a print out from computer of an animal of student's choice
Assessment:  N/A
Extensions and modifications:  The children could look up other animals on the internet that aren't housepets to continue learning.
